My "powerful" puppy

That's what my colleague calls Phui Phui. My powerful puppy. We were musing what damage phui can do to my enemies. But, that's just mean talk - we know better then Phui will never hurt a soul - well, at least, if you've got 2 legs, he'll be more then happy to have you sayang him rather then he chewing a screaming being.

Talking about powerful puppies - I met the most ill informed dimwit ever on Sunday evening. Yes - I've never met someone that unreasonable, and that ill informed. PD and I made arranged a blind date for Phui Phui. It was with one of the owners of a female bull terrier. He was keen to have phui as a stud, hence, we arranged to have both the little ones to meet.

That was about a week ago that we made the arrangement - I had clearly forgotten about it. But, it was our usual ritual to bring phui to the dog run every weekend evening. So, it was no mayfair when we set off for some play for phui.

I was pleasantly surprise when I saw another bull terrier - with a large patch over the eye.

Me : Look Baybee! Another Bull terrier!!! YEAH!

PD laughed, absoluately sure that I've clearly forgotten about phui's blind date today. He said that's Tiger's sibling. Tiger was a usual sight at the dog run. She's a lovely brindle coloured Preasa. On all fours, her body reaches to my waist. I love her muscles too - her owner brings her out for 5km runs on a daily basis...

WOW.. no wonder look so well built.

With phui on leash, we met up with Whisky, the bull that I spotted. Together with her entourage. There's of course Tiger and also Ruby the brown mastiff. Whisky was trying to get off her leash to sniff at Phui. Phui looked at her - shocked probably from her naughtiness. Whisky was trying to lauch forward at Phui Phui and trying to nip him in the process.

The owner, M, reassured us that his just being her playful self, and isn't agressive at all. So, we unleash phui and whisky. Whisky tried to pounce at Phui and Phui retreated... he ran a few steps backwards. Eventually, he started running away from her. It was quite funny to see Phui running away like that. PD and I caught sight of him ducking a few times and even saw his tail went down on the first encounter.

Strangely, after retreating, Phui decided to give chase. He chases Whisky and Tiger around the dog run. And, after 15min, they were best of frens. In the midst of chasing, Phui took interest in a cocker spaniel and wondered off to check her out.

We were not far away from him, so, when he slowed down his pace from the chasing saga, we strolled toward him and the cocker. Instead of a frenly smile from the owners - we got a hostile look

ignorant male dimwit w/glasses #1 - How can you let your dog run like that ?? Don't you know that his breed bites other dogs????
ignorant female dimwite in white - [scrowls at phui]
PD - huh? did he bite your dog?
ignorant male dimwit w/glasses #1 - Yes, he bit this dog over here [pointed to a black cocker]
PD - did he?
owner of black cocker - errr... no-no. its not his dog that bit. its the other one.
PD - [was soooooo mad at this point and walked off]

I was really mad. I went over to confront them with Phui. Honestly, I was hopping mad. How could anyone make such remarks. Its a discrimination against the breed. True. Bull terriers have a bad reputation for bitting. But not ALL bull terriers bite.

Have you ever read that in the newspaper that a golden retriever or a labrador bites too???? I'm sure you have. But, these breeds roam free - an everyone walks beside them oblivion too.

Truly, its pure ignorance and anti social to make such comments. All dogs bit - why discriminate some breeds ? Why made such accusations?

Me - if you are so afraid, you may want to bring your dog into the fenced up area where small dog owners go to.

A little boy said when i Phui ran toward his dog wanting to play. He said "Get this bull terrier out of this place. His not allowed here." At this point, I was too angry for words, I really did want to tell the boy off, but, I know it was not his own perspective. He was surrounded by the same dimwits who hated Phui Phui. All I did was gave him a murderous glare.

His mother sssh him and told him not to be rude. I turned heel and walked.

At this point, Ruby came along to my side. She's really lovely isn't she.

Strange, Ruby is 2 or maybe 3 times the size of Phui, but no one seems to be afraid of him. She's a mustiff for god's sake. They are as agressive as Bull Terriers, but no one says anything, and no one gives an evil glint.

Why oh Why oh Why - Phui's just a dog. Like any other pet dogs - why do people want to do that to him? He isn't being naughty at all. All he did was went over, wagged his tail and wanted to play.

This hasn't only once - it has happen several times.

These dimwitts should be locked up and educated on social skills and EQ.

Even right now, when I think about it, I feel so angry and unjustified for my sweet little pea. :(

Sigh...

cheer up, girl...we can't stop those tongues wagging forever...just ignore...no point in confronting these idiots who won't be able to see as a whole picture...they will just look at the surface...

i do know it's unfair to little phui due to the minority of bull terriers who are fierce and do bite other dogs...these minorities have caused people to have a fixed mindset that bull terriers are fierce and do bite...

instead, u should feel proud that little phui is not like other bull terriers who have bad reputation...u should feel proud that little phui is not naughty and is a well-behaved bull terrier...u should fee proud of little phui's proper upbringing and the credit goes to u and karl...rather than to be angry with these idiots...

You can really just put all these down to a lack of education and yes, dim-witted-ness. Some people are just super kiasu and kiasee so they see a dog that resembles one that they read in the bloody media that killed a human, they turn tail and run.

Honestly, I've read so many entries of yours that are angry at such people. No use getting all upset with such people - why waste your efforts?

If I were you, next time, bring along articles about Phui's breed. Tell them, since you're so ignorant, here's something for you ponder about while you go about your sad life.

At least you're doing YOUR part in educating people eh? :)

It's just like how some non-divers go into a big tirade about how sharks are soooo dangerous and we'd get killed if we go diving in shark-filled waters. It's like hello? Research from where? Jaws?

*faint*

that's good suggestion ene - i'll a small little pamphlet to give out to these utterly hopeless dimwits, in the hope to educate the general public as it seems that the general media isn't doing such a good job. Either that, or, they aren't very good listeners. hahah.

yes! its frustrating and infuriating to know that such absurb stupidity really still exist!!!

GOSH!!!

Hi sista, it's us. Alix and art, Jacque's owners. We're kinda sad to read your whole story and experience at the dog run. Many people also give us the stare when we walk downstairs at Simei or to the carpark where i train him. People want Jacque to be muzzled at all times when walking outside. Children also shan't away from us. It's a real sickening feeling and i know where u're coming from. Just release yr anger(if u still have any) and ignore them. Next time, Jacque and phui will roam the whole petamart dog run together and scare those dimwits with their small and whiny dogs. I'll probably get Jacque to shoot his load onto their face as well =)

Cheer up k?
