9 to 5

things have been moving fast i have to say - was away from the datacentre - and for the past 2 years with my current company, i've never felt that free before. . Free as in, not the typical local singaporean's reference as in "nothing-to-do", but free, as in... freedom!!! well, you have to know that my office adminstrator was quite anal about the 8:30 to 5:30 office time. I once challenged her - so, does that mean, that as long as i come in at 8:30, i have to stay only till 5:30 ? i sure wouldn't stay till 3am in the morning and come in at 8:30 that same morning if i've got everything fixed up, and my purpose of going into office is to "clock-the-time". It doesn't make sense does it?!

Anyway, i thought that i'm left very much on my own now - i have free reign.. muhahah.. but saying that, i wouldn't abuse that. I guess, its the nature of my job. I ain't really bitching abt the "8:30 to 5:30" thing, but, really, if i need to get up at 2 am in the morning to fix my servers, you sure as hell don't start counting on the lost minutes the company is losing when i'm not at my desk at 8:30 in the morning. I don't mean to go on-and-on on this, but, if the nature of the job demands it, then i think people shld be punctuate for work, say, a cashier's job, or a bank teller's, or an office receptionist, however, if for a 24/7 job, you sure don't expect that.. do i make sense ? did i get my point across ???

gosh! i sure did have to do alot of "look - let me explain this to you again so you can get it" speech with my office admin lady. She's so rigid!!! and, as if its going to make the company more efficient. she doesn't realise that she's making it less efficient this way! gosh! the only person who needs to be in time-structure is her team.. the rest of us, Research, IT, Corporate Finance/Advisory have flexi hours. . tell the analyst that he needs to abide by this time structure - he'll tell u "to hell with you!" - by the way, they monitor the US mkt too - that'll explain their grounchiness in the morning.. ;) heheheh...

anyway, there - it doesn't take a 9 to 5er to balance up the efficiency equation - it just depends on the nature of job in subject. any one have opinions otherwise ?
